wished i had run in the color run race… but if i did, i would’ve wished i took photos of the race! it was one of the more challenging and possibly most fun photo assignments i’ve assigned to myself!

now if only they’d team up with the firefly run and do a night time race where people throw glow-in-the-dark neon paint on you!

gpoyw -it’s been a while… for the mad men fans out there!

busy… busy… week! started my first week at my new job, but that wasn’t what made an impact on my mileage…
at the last possible moment (i.e. before going to bed for a run in the morning), i got convinced to go watch the midnight showing of hunger games.
also… i learned gorging bbq doesn’t go well the night before a long run.
track workouts included…
5x1600m @ tempo pace
5x[2x200m @ ~3k pace w/ 200m recovery, 1x400m @ ~3k pace w/ 400m recovery]
i’ll be roughly following jack daniels’ for this training season. maybe drinking some too.

decisions, decisions

so for my 8th marathon (which i want to be really special… and by special i mean fast!), i have 2 possible options…

  1. run the rocket city marathon in huntsville, alabama with other friends
  2. run the california international marathon (by myself) and cheer on friends at rocket city (one week after cali)

i’m almost certain that california will have better weather for its time of year (let’s not talk about the 2011 la marathon though… lol)

last week in review
thanks to my trip to asheville, i met a local running group and got some serious mileage done! i did do quite a bit of two-a-days and once i got back to atlanta, i rounded it off with the running groups here topping off my mileage to just over 50mi last week.
the track workout i did in asheville was something i’ve never really done before. it goes like this…
1mi warmup
1000m
4x400m
1000m
4x400m
1000m
to be done at 5k pace w/ 200m rest in between each. it didn’t turn out to be as bad as i thought. my biggest concern was doing it after having just gotten off a marathon about a week ago at the time. i like to call it the double burger workout. omnomnom.
this week assuming i am not lazy and get in my recovery runs, i might be looking at 60+ miles.
here’s hoping i don’t injure myself in the process! coming off of a very lazy winter (15-25mi average/wk), i just might be biting off more than i can chew. so far i’ve been able to manage.

congrats to everyone who participated and completed the publix georgia half and full marathon!

i took a sideline approach today and spectated the race with a group of friends just past mile 21 (right before the park). i couldn’t stay the whole time because i had to meet someone close to lunch time. it was quite the scorcher! reminded me of chicago marathon weather!

anywho… i suppose when i’m spectating, there are pics to be had!

easy run up here at unc asheville. maybe it’s my lack of knowledge of the area, but i’m finding it hillier than atlanta in general.

i’m currently spending my last week of “vacation” up here in asheville. i had this vision where i would do “semi-high altitude” training in the mountains. failed miserably, but still got in two runs yesterday. i found a running group at a local running store so i’m set for the rest of my stay.
what i find more interesting is that i made it a point to be back by thursday because that’s when the group run goes on in atlanta. it’s also st. paddy’s day weekend so that probably means there’s gonna be copious amounts of beer.
for anyone that’s running the publix half/full this weekend (such as christwalk for the first time), keep an eye out at mile ~8.75/21 (park and monroe). i’ll be going back and fourth along the course, but you might catch me at this spot!

coming up next…

with the albany marathon done, that makes it marathon number 7 for me. 8 is a number i consider to be very special so i will be making sure my next marathon will be very special as well. it’s still a work in progress at the moment.

in the meantime, the next race i’ll be training for is the peachtree road race 10k coming in july. the fun part being that i’ve never trained for the 10k distance before. all of my formal training have been for marathons with shorter races along the way. it’ll be interesting to see how my focus changes shooting for the 10k distance.

beyond peachtree, the only other major race coming up for me is the augusta half-ironman in the early fall.

spring awakening

what a whacky weekend this has been. i’m kind of slowly re-acclimating myself to tumblr again and a handful of races have gone on! the ones i can think of off the top of my head being new orleans, little rock, and albany!

congrats to everyone who raced them especially if it was your first time (half or full)! i hope everyone fared well through the terrible weather yesterday if it affected your area.

spring is pretty much here and we’re about to jump forward in time soon too!
